  • 02 February 2000    13:00    Overcast
  • 01 February 2000    12:50    Forecast is for it to brighten up this afternnon, so a sunset may occur and flashing at Cuilags may be observable.  It was excellent, but a shower at 16:18 blotted out the reappearance
  • 31 January 2000    12:11    Nice day with showers and sunny periods.  Cloudy in the west, but you never can tell.....
  • 30 January 2000    Totally overcast all day.  Strongest gust yesterday 114mph
  • 29 January 2000    11:59    Quite breezy today - maybe gusting to about 70/80mph, so my camera fixing must be OK.  No chance of a sunset today I am afraid.
  • 28 January 2000    14:21    Overcast, windy, rainy - n o sunset.
  • 27 January 2000    13:00    Totally overcast - no sunset today.
  • 26 January 2000    13:53    A nice day but cloudy in the west - some possibility of a sunset.
  • 25 January 2000    14;07    Sorry folks, it is once again overcast, a nice day, but no sun on the subject at all.  There is some light in the west, but no sunset I fear.
  • Monday 24 January 2000    12:33    Well a beautiful sunrise today, and nice all morning, but the usual cloud in the west and rain forecast.  However as can be seen above there is blue sky at Maeshowe, so maybe there will be some light there yet.
  • 23 January 2000    12:55    Yet another calm, clear, dry, pleasant day - just no sunshine!  That said there is some brightness in the west and a sunset is not impossible.
  • 22 January 2000    12:45    Sunny periods with cold north wind.  Overcast in south west - sunset not impossible......!?
  • 21 January 2000    13:01    Overcast and rather dark.  No sunset today but forecast is better for tomorrow.  This is the poorest season for winter sunsets for many years, although the weather is in fact quite pleasanr.  Forecast to be colder northerly winds for weekend.
  • 20 January 2000    13:00    A much nicer day with sunshine as can be seen.  Although there is cloud in the west there is a fair chance of a sunset.  Looking better for the next few days as the muck clears....
  • 19 January 2000    12:33    Forecast is for high pressure to remain and thus it will be overcast until Friday.  No sunset today anyway.  Nice calm settled weather but dark and damp.
  • 18 January 2000    12:57    Despite a large Atlantic High we are totally overcast as the muck is all coming round the top of the high - no sunset today and outlook also poor.
  • 17 January 2000    13:00    Overcast - no sunset
  • 16 January 2000    13:35    The pattern has been the same today - a lovely morning and then overcast and a rising wind.  No sunset today.
  • 15 January 2000    14:05    After a beautiful morning the sky has now clouded over and the wind is rising.  However there may yet be a break in the cloud in the SW.
  • 14 January 2000    13:06    Yet another fine winter's day, but at present overcast.  However there appears to be some lifting in the SW so a Maeshowe sunset is just possible.  Worth checking back about 14:50.
  • 13 January 2000    14:30    Sorry folks -totally overcast and rainy as you can see.  Yesterday was perfect and can be viewed at Reappearing sun on 12th January 2000.
  • 12 January 2000    13:17    Beautiful sunny calm day.  Some cloud in the west, but forecast good and
         reappearance may well be observed.
  • 11 January 2000    13:04    Overcast and rainy, but some clear periods.  Forecast is for rain - so no
         "reappearance" is likely today.
  • Monday 10 January 2000    13:00    A perfect sunset yesterday - Victor is making and animated GIF.  Brightening in the west after a showery morning, and thus sime possibility of a sunset today.
  • 09 January 2000    13:08    Yet another lovely clear, calm winter day after a windy night.  However there is cloud again in the SW.  All the same a sunset is possible, perhaps to be interrupted by cloud.  As seen above at present there is clear sunshine at Maeshowe.
  • 08 January 2000    13:30    Bright at Kelton but cloud in west - no sunset
  • 07 January 2000    12:41    Bright sunny day with some cloud, but good possibility of a sunset today.  At present clear in west.
  • 06 January 2000    14:45    A perfect sunset between showers at last!
  •                                 13:10    Sunny period with day improving and as can be seen above there is blue sky in the west.  Forecast is for showers with clear periods, so a sunset is possible.  Looking better in next few days.
  • 05 January 2000    13:00    A better day but overcast and no sunset
  • 04 January 2000    12:53    Sorry folks, it just is not a very good solstice time for weather, today is again overcast and raint with no chance at all of a sunset.  Rather frustrating considering the effort put in and the smooth operation of all systems.
  • 03 January 2000    13:07    Quite a breezy night, maybe about force 10.  Bright now but clouds on horizon.  Some chance of a sunset, but only if SW horizon clears.
  • 02 January 2000    13:06    At last a lovely sunny day after a night of wind and rain.  Bright all around and especially in the SW, best chance of a sunset for ages!

  • 31 December 1999    12:31    Overcast but pleasant day.  No sunshine but the odd clear break.  Poor chance of a sunset, sorry folks!  Showery at times.  All the same we wish you Happy New Year and all the best for the year 2000.  Only 366 days to go till the Millennium.
  • 30 December 1999    13:07    Slightly over cast with sunny periods and flat calm.  Large blue patch in SW but cloudy on horizon.  Not much chance of a clear sunset but light in Maeshowe possible.
  • 29 December 1999    12:34    Happy 50th Leslie! Yet another beautiful morning, sunny and calm, but again with cloud in the west.  As the pic shows there is some brightness, so maybe there could be some light in Maeshowe today.
  • 28 December 1999    12:42    Dry, clear, calm sunny day, with some cloud in west, but this seems to be clearing from the SW as can be seen from the pic above.  Some chance of a sunset.
  • 27 December 1999    14:09    Overcast with showers, but some sunny intervals, but very dark in the west now.  Poor chance of a sunset unless there is a clearance in the SW.
  • 26 December 1999    13:02    Another overcast day, but some bright patches and heavy showers.  Could be some light in Maeshowe between showers.
  • 25 December 1999    12:00    Rainy start but brighter now - a good Ba' day.  The Ba' went up with a spectacular Uppie break from St Magnus Lane, and Edgar Gibson was the winner.
  • 24 December 1999    12:38    Again overcast but widy with showers with sunny intervals.  There will be some light in Maeshowe today, but not a full sunset I think.

  • Monday 20 December 1999    12:53    Overcast but pleasant day.  Some brightness in the west.  Ground still covered in snow, but thawing.

  • 17 December 1999    09:42    A big depression is passing, but the wind is not as strong as forecast.  After it passes tomprrow the wind will go around to the NW and we may get sunsets Saturday, Sunday, Monday if we are lucky.  All systems are operational - we just need clear skies!

  • 14 December 1999    Three cameras now mounted and operational.  Not looking very good today for a sunset.  No pictures transmitted, ISDN fault?

  • 11 December 1999    Day started sunny, but now frequent hail showers with sunny periods.  Some light in Maeshowe is however possible, depending on how the showers are spaced.  Lovely clear frosty night last night with just a hint of the Aurora Borealis.  Jupiter and Saturn brilliant.
  • 10 December 1999    Sorry no forecast today - could not connect to Zetnet.  Good sunset for a time .  Camera 3 now operational and camera 2 will be tomorrow.  Clear frost night tonight with a good chance of a better day tomorrow.
  • 9 December 1999    ISDN now working, sky quite bright in the west, sunny at present, possibility of a sunset today.  Two cameras still awaited from USA.
  • 8 December 1999    ISDN down, very dark, no sunset today
