  • 12th February 2001 - project over for this season
  • 15 January 2001 14:15 High pressure still - yet another fantastic sunset
  • 14 January 2001 11:59 High pressure continues with a totally clear sky - a good sunset is guaranteed, and although flashing is past the movement of the sun across the fllor and back wall at Maeshowe will be spectacular today
  • 13 january 2001 12:17 High pressure continues - totally clear - there will be a good sunset today. Yesterday was perfect but one day too late for flashing. Pictures will be online later.
  • 12 January 2001 12:44 High pressure for the next few days is forecast. Today we have thin cloud and quite a lot of blue sky so a sunset and flashing is highly likely.
  • 11 January 2001 14:37 good chance of a sunset today with flashing as there is a gap in the clouds behind the Hoy Hills
  • 10 January 2001 excellent sunset but no flashing
  • 9 January 2001 no sunset
  • 8 Jnauary 2001 13:56 Some clouds and showers, but also blue patches today. Good forecast for later in the week so "flashing" may be observable.
  • 7 January 2001 12:53 Lovely morning but clouds again in the west. System crashed yesterday for first time for many days. No sunset today.
  • 6 January 2001 13:10 Another lovely sunny and calm day, but humid and with a bank of cloud in the wst. This amy clear..
  • 5 January 2001 12:53 Thin cloud and some bright patches, but a bank of cloud on the horizon. This may clear to allow a sunset - worth looking back at 14:45
  • 4 January 2001 13:49 Rain now clearing from SW with brightness and some blue sky - chance of a sunset
  • 3 January 2001 12:39 Overcast and quite warm. Lovely sunrise, and some brightness in the west. Worth checking back at 14:45 to see if there is a sunset - there was an excellent one at last!
  • 2 January 2000 12:46 The snow has all gone and it is much warmer, but overcast, so no sunset today unless the brightness in the SW turns into clearance.
  • 1 January 2000 Happy New Year - no forecast as I was at the Ba'
  • 31 December 2000 13:15 Nice crisp day with some snow still lying. Some cloud about so chances of a sunset are not very good
  • 30 December 2000 13:35 Yet another lovely day with cloud in the west
  • 29 December 2000 12:55 Snow showers today, but snow is wet. Some chance of a sunset if there is no cloud behind Hoy.
  • 28 December 2000 13:29 Yet another lovely day, but again there are clouds in the west. Worth a check back at 14:40-15:00 GMT
  • 27 December 2000 11:28 Beautiful sunny day with a little snow - camera 3 is still covered, but may clear when the sun comes around. Good chance of a sunset so long as a shower does not appear. At present there is a shower in the SW but this will pass.
  • 26 December 2000 12:41 A dusting of snow - in fact the exterior camera is covered in snow, hence the picture! Sunny and clear but clouds on the horizon. A sunset is very likely.
  • 25 December - no forecast as I was covering the Ba' - it was a nice sunset however
  • 24 December 2000 13:44 Lovely sunny winter day and a sunset is probable. Yesterday was also good, but we had dialup problems. Look back at 14:40GMT
  • 23 december 2000 13:03 Wind has gone round to north and sky is clearing so a sunset is possible today and likely tomorrow - ftp problems again but they will be resolved before 14:30 I hope
  • 22 December 2000 12:33 Another murky day with 100% cloud cover - no sunset today. Forecast is for the wind to go round to the north for Xmas Day and maybe some snow, so possibilty of sunsets then.
  • 21 December 2000 10:55 Calm and overcast, with SSW wind, and some brightness in the west. I will update this forecast later.
  • update at 12:54 Drizzle and low cloud, with Hoy Hills not visible from Maeshowe, so quite poor prospects for today. Hoever you never keyn as we say here. Tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday all look possible.
  • 20 December 2000 12:43 SE wind and rain with falling glass. Depression tracking through today, so no sunset but there may well be a clearance by tomorrow, allowing a solstice sunset.
  • 19 December 2000 12:38 Not very good for today, with cloud and some rain, but forecast to clear later. Better for tomorrow.
  • 18 December 2000 11:40 Another very nice sunny, dry, clear winter day here with very good chance of a sunset. FTP problems yesterday but the sunset fizzled out anyway. Forecast looks good for later this week too.
  • 17 December 2000 12:35 Looking very good for today with a beautiful clear sky and sunshine - not a winter day at all.
  • 16 December 2000 12:03 Overcast again today, but very thin cloud and some brightness in the west as can be seen oun camera. A sunset is possible today, and also tomorrow. Also a chance of aurora tonight or tomorrow, see
  • 13:49 Oh well - sorry everyone - but it is wall to wall grey today.
  • 15 December 2000 12:41 Overcast but calm day here. Not much chance of s sunset though. Forecast looks better for Saturday and Sunday with a ridge of high pressure due to come over before the next depression.
  • 14 December 11:33 Stormy day with wind and rain - not much chance of a sunset - but have a look at 14:30 anyhow to see three cameras running.
  • 13 December 13:13 Overcast with rain today - not likely to be a sunset. Camera has arrived and will be operational later today.
  • 12 December 10:57 looking very good for today, clear and cloudless at present. Cam1 working again. New Cam2 awaited.
  • 11 December 2000 12:39 Clearing from west and looking very good indeed for a nice sunset. Everything sunctioning fine at Maeshowe. Watch here from 14:30GMT onwards.
  • 10 December 2000 Sorry folks - completely overcast with rain so no sunset. A nice article in the Herald yesterday though.
  • 9 December 2000 16:24 Apologies for no forecast today - more important to have systems all up and running. Overcast all day. All computers are now online again, camera 2 will be installed as soon as received next week.
  • 8 December 2000 12:23 Not a very nice day with rain and overcast - no sunset today. Computer down yesterday due to someone turning off power. Will be up again on 9th December.
  • 7 December 2000 12:34 Beautiful clear, sunny day. Good sunset today is virtually certain. Zetnet seems to be down at the moment however. Beautiful sunset yesterday.
  • 6 December 2000 12:20 Weather clearing from the west, and suuny at present, with a good chance of a sunset this afternoon. Some cloud on horizon, but this may well clear.
  • 5 December 2000 12:34 Depression passing and forecast to clear from the west, which is already happening. A sunset is quite possible today if the clearance is in time. The exterior camera is already showing brightness in the SW
  • 4 December 2000 12:45 Sadly after yesterday's wonderful sunset today is totally overcast and there is no sign of any brightening in the west. No flashing was obseved yesterday, confirming our theory and Victor's calculations.
  • 3 December 2000 12:16 Lovely morning and some possibility of a sunset, however there is thickening cloud in the NW- worth watching to see anyway.
  • 2 December 2000 13:14 After a pleasant start they weather has become overcast with a rising wind. Soory no sunset today.
  • 1 December 2000 13:00 Started overcast and rainy. Now clear with some haze, so a good sunset is in prospect today - worth watching. Two cameras operational.
  • 30 November 2000 12:40 A nice sunny day and a possibilit of a sunset. we hope to be online later today.
  • 11 November 2000 lovely day today and yesterday - hopefully this will be what we will have in December!
