Sunset inside Maeshowe 26 November 1999

All of the pictures on this page were taken with a Nikon Coolpix 950 digital camera

26 November 1999 - there was an excellent sunset and the earliest yet shots of the sun in the chamber were made.
 

The sun was still passing over the top of the Ward Hill of Hoy	The light was shining on the SE side of the passage at 14:50
The beam of light hit the rear blocking stone directly	and illuminated the floor and passage brilliantly
Gradually the beam moved off the block	View from the blocking stone down the passage
The light gradually faded as the sun moved round	but remained shining brightly on the passage wall
as it moved off the blocking stone onto the wall	the patch of light remained bright but got smaller
until it finally became a small patch on the wall	lower down and to the left of its position on 1st December.
