Comparison tests with a Macbeth colour checker card. Photographed with 70-180mm micro Nikkor with SB800 flash on aperture priority at f11. Flash about 25cm from lens axis. D2X at ISO 100-HI2 and D100 at ISO 200-HI2. NEF files are as shot with no correction. Full size JPGs are processsed in Nikon Capture 4.2 with only correction to white and black levels reduction to 8-bit and saved at Photoshop 12. As with the D100 it seems that Nikon Capture is essential for best results. The images below are 600 pixels wide and saved at 4.
