Webcams

Three webcams will broadcast from inside and outside Maeshowe for a period of approximately a month either side of the winter solstice

For the 27 November 2004 to February 2005 broadcast camera positions are:

Camera
Camera Location
Sample Image
Camera 1: Above the entry passage looking down onto the back wall of the tomb (this is the main camera)
Camera 2: Ouside the tomb looking West towards the Hoy Hills (mainly used to give an idea of current weather conditions close to sunset)
Camera 3: In the East chamber looking out towards the entry passage

In previous years we have had the cameras up for less time and originally there were only two cameras, with the outside camera being added in December 1999. Camera positions have been changed slightly throughout the 5 years we have operated the webcams (one notable change being the position of camera 3 in 2001-2002 in the South
chamber looking towards the back wall rather than the usual position looking out the passage from the east chamber - this was due to cabling problems which we hope to avoid in the future).
